About

Anastasia Dziekan was once absolutely terrified of horror movies, refusing to watch anything scarier than Ghostbusters or Gremlins. Still, she harbored a fascination with the genre, often doodling monsters on her school notes and enjoying the aesthetics of horror. For her, the concept of "no fear in the writer, no fear in the reader" rings true. She has embraced her love of horror full force, and spends much of her time reading, writing, or watching it. For her, horror is an escape from anxiety and a conquering of fear.

Anastasia Dziekan's work is smart and gory, often with a sharp comedic edge. She frequently deals with queer and feminist themes in her writing.

Anastasia graduated from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's degree in English. She also minored in creative writing and in secondary education, in pursuit of her teaching certification. Teaching is her other passion, another way for her to embrace and share her passion for literature.

It was at Ursinus College that she fully embraced horror, conquering her fear. (Her first true horror movie was The Evil Dead - the 1981 original, and she loved it.) In Ursinus' Summer Fellows program, working with mentor Jon Volkmer, she created a collection of 5 short stories titled Hysteria: A Collection of Feminist Horror. Each story in the collection took an existing trope or convention of the horror genre, and explored it from a feminist lens. 2 of these stories have found publication in anthologies, and she is continuing to seek placement for the remaining 3. Additionally, she is always writing and submitting new works, building up a wealth of short stories. She is also starting work on her first full length novel.
